How menus are created in Joomla!
This is possibly one of the most confusing areas for a new person, but when you see it explained like this (below) it should make things a lot clearer for you.
- The menus you already see created in the sample data are created simply by going to >administrator>Menu>Menu Manager>New and creating a new one
- Then go to the new item under >Menu and open it.
- Now by choosing "New", in the top menu you have a number of ways to link to your content for that particular menu item. Just use the Joomla! help menu to explore the various methods.
- Now you will have a new menu (group) and to use it you need to go to >Modules>Site Modules and look down the list until you see the name of the menu (group) you created. It was created automatically for you before.
- Now open that module and choose which module position in your template you want to publish it to. (that is, WHERE on your site you want this - or any other menu - to be)
- Go to your front page and you will see it as long as your menu items have been published.
- Likewise, if it's a case of changing menu items on present menus, or changing module positions, just follow what you've read above.
TIPS !
- When you create a "table - content category" menu item (for example), you will be able to set a number of display parameters. Many people search all over Joomla! for these... :) Don't, this is where you'll find them
