- We are going to reset the "super administrator" password
- You must have access to your database.
- If you want to be safe, backup your database before making changes.
Finding the Password
- Log into your Joomla database.
- Click to edit the _users database (it will be preceded by "jos" or whatever was used at installation time)
- Edit the record for where usertype = "Super Administrator" (it should be the first record)
Resetting the Password
On opening the record for edit, in the password field there will be a string of characters. You won't be able to retrieve your old password. However, you will be able to reset the password to a new one by pasting the following :
21232f297a57a5a743894a0e4a801fc3 (this represents the password - "admin")
Save it by clicking "Go" at the bottom
You have just reset your Joomla password to "admin". Go to your Joomla! domain at yourdomain.com/administrator and login with "admin" as the new password. You should find you have logged in as a Super Administrator.
Now you MUST change the password to something far more difficult for a hacker to get past.
