Joomla Extensions - Must Have

E-mail Print PDF

Here's a List of Some of the Joomla! Extensions which are obligatory !

N.B. - Before installing ANY extension, consult the "Vulnerable Extensions" list at the Joomla! site.  The last thing you want to do is to lay yourself open to hackers.

1/ JCE Editor can be read about here
JCE is a "must" to install and then manage your content (articles).  Download it, install it, go to "Global Configuration" in the Joomla! Administrator panel and change to it. Configuration of the extension will be necessary if you want to include Javascript on your pages (Adsense etc).  If you've been trying to add Adsense code to your page and it keeps disappearing (in any Editor including JCE), then the editor is stripping it out as you save the page.  After you've installed JCE in Joomla!, go to the Component list in the administrator panel, find "JCE Administration", choose "Configuration", then when the page is displayed, choose "Groups" in the menu, then "Default", then "Editor Parameters".  Then change the Javascript setting to "Yes" and save it.  Now you can proceed with entering Javascript like Adsense into any of your Joomla! article pages.  One of the great features of JCE is that it will enable you to easily link to other parts of your Joomla! site.

2/ Akeeba Backup can be read about here
Akeeba Backup Core creates a site backup that can be restored on any Joomla!-capable server.  An absolute must.

3/ Xmap is a Joomla! Site map generator, allowing you to create a map of your site using the structure of your menus.  It has support for many other extensions.

4/ sh404SEF rewrites Joomla URL's to a user-friendly format, manages title and meta tags as well as providing some security protection.  It's a wicked extension which has now moved from being free to costing a reasonable amount of money.  The peace of mind for security is worth the money alone.

Remember, you can do your bit initially by ensuring your Joomla! Administrator password is complex : use both alpha (some upper and some lower case) and numeric characters.
